Trauma Therapy in Amsterdam
Sessions in English & Hungarian · In person on Nassaukade, Amsterdam, or online (including EMDR)
When trauma therapy can help
- A single distressing event, such as an accident, assault or sudden loss
- Difficult or painful childhood experiences
- Experiences linked to moving abroad: a crisis far from home, discrimination, isolation, or a move that wasn't your choice
- Memories, images or body reactions that still feel "too much"
- Feeling on guard, numb or easily triggered
How we work
- Step 1
Stabilisation first
We build skills to calm your nervous system before touching difficult memories.
- Step 2
Processing
EMDR helps the brain process memories so they lose their emotional charge. Extended 90-minute sessions give enough time to start and finish safely.
- Step 3
Patterns and needs
Schema Therapy addresses the beliefs and coping styles that developed in response, such as "I am not safe" or "I have to handle everything alone".
- Step 4
Integration
We look at how you want to live and relate now.
What the research says
The World Health Organization and NICE both recommend EMDR and trauma-focused CBT for post-traumatic stress disorder in adults. See the WHO guidelines and NICE guideline NG116.
